American Airlines announced an agreement with Boom Super Sonic to buy up to 20 planes Overture, with an option for an additional 40. These are the fastest commercial aircraft in the world and, although they are not ready yet, the airline has already put a non-refundable deposit on some of them.
It is expected that Overture transport passengers at twice the speed of today’s fastest commercial aircraft. An example is that you could travel from Miami to London in just under five hours or from New York to London in three hours, when this trip usually takes around seven hours.
According to American Airlines, Overture of Boom Super Sonic would introduce a significant new speed advantage for the airline’s fleet, which currently “is the simplest, youngest and most efficient among US network operators”. Under the terms of the agreement, boom must meet industry standard requirements for operation, performance, and safety, as well as other customary conditions of American prior to delivery of any Overture.
Neither American Airlines neither boom revealed the amount of the deposit set by the airline, but in 2021, United Airlines he had also made one by 15 of the supersonic planes. Optimized for speed, security and sustainability, Overture it’s also designed to fly more than 600 routes around the world in half the time. boom plans to complete the final design of the plane by 2025 and has a goal of first flights in 2029.
