According to reports carried out by the Mexican health authorities, it is disclosed that smoking is an activity that reduces life expectancy in our country by up to 10 years or more and is also associated with multiple diseases of the respiratory system. and other organs of vital importance for the life of the human being.
Why does smoking reduce life expectancy by up to 10 years?
According to information from the General Directorate of Health Care of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), people who are active smokers may find their life expectancy reduced by up to an average of 10 years and even more.
The UNAM points out that “scientific evidence shows that smoking reduces life expectancy by around 10 years. Dependence on the nicotine contained in cigarettes causes the blood vessels to narrow, blood circulation to slow and the heart to work hard.”
On the other hand, the effects are not only for active smokers, the so-called passive smokers, as those who inhale cigarette smoke indirectly are known, can also have various effects on their health system, a subject that has taken great relevance within Mexican politics.
This has led to the creation of various laws in our country in this regard, such as laws that prevent people from smoking in closed spaces, this in order to safeguard the health of the entire environment.
