What’s new from Amazon
It was recently reported that Amazon quietly acquired a small audio-focused AI company called Snackable, to bolster user features for its podcasts.
According to local media, Amazon closed the deal for Snackable last December, the company confirmed to The Post.
The company also reported that Mari Joller, founder and CEO of Snackable, now serves as the AI and machine learning product leader at Amazon.
That’s why Snackable will work on podcast features offered through Amazon Music, the company added.
To date, the financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed. But Joller now leads a “team of engineers, applied scientists, and computational linguists to create AI-based products for Amazon Music Podcasts customers,” according to his LinkedIn account.
This deal comes as Amazon and other Big Tech rivals push to implement AI-powered features into products across their businesses.
The e-commerce giant also confirmed the latest deal with little fanfare, but Snackable’s LinkedIn page updated to say the company had “teamed up with Amazon to continue to innovate and explore new experiences on behalf of Amazon’s podcast customers.” Amazon Music”.
Also, the race for AI has intensified following the huge success of Microsoft-backed OpenAI ChatGPT, which generates realistic responses to a wide variety of user prompts.
During last month’s earnings call, Amazon’s chief financial officer Brian Olsavsky told analysts that the company would “add more dollars for large language models and generative artificial intelligence.”
It’s worth noting that Snackable touts technology that allowed users and businesses to instantly analyze long audio or video clips by “automatically generating chapters, highlights, and more,” according to its listing on the Product Hunt tech forum.
Prior to the Amazon acquisition, Snackable had raised a total of $3.1 million from outside investors in three fundraising rounds, according to data compiled by Crunchbase.
There are many companies in this industry that are dabbling in AI, such as Meta, which is applying this technology to its social networks in order to improve the experience of its users.
