The last name Iñárritu has been on everyone’s lips since his film was released Bard, false chronicle of a few truths. But, now, one of the actors with whom he worked in another of his films spoke of the director for a very different reason. This is Rubén Ochandiano, whom Alejandro González Iñárritu would have wanted to fire from the filming of beautiful for being gay.
This was revealed by the actor during an interview on the program the Script (via Cinemania). During the talk, Ochandiano mentioned that he did not have such a good time on the set of the film starring Javier Bardem, which is not one of the best received from the filmmaker. According to his account, upon discovering that he was gay, the filmmaker no longer wanted him to participate in the production.
“We had an ugly thing, the truth is that when he found out that I liked boys he wanted to kick me out”.
Much has been said about the filming of the director’s films being complicated, and apparently the interpreter can verify this, because at some point in the interview he assured: “Yes, I had a terrible time, really.”
But, even with this statement, and after mentioning that there were rumors on the set that “They’re going to kick him out!”, Ochandiano said he had nothing against the filmmaker. Even when the presenter of the program was surprised by Iñárritu’s homophobic attitude, Rubén asserted the following, making it clear that she would like to work with him again:
“It was also another time. It is true that it was absolutely another time, ”she said. “At that time, Alejandro, who is the most interesting director I’ve ever worked with, who I really care about and with whom I would love to work again.”
In addition, he added that the director was uncomfortable during filming because of an accessory that the actor wore in his ear. He wears an earring in his right ear and, although the appearance of this accessory was included in the film’s script, it was mentioned there that the character, a policeman, should wear it on the left side. According to what Rubén remembers, Iñárritu believed that the earring on the right side gave the “message” that the policeman was gay. This said:
“I wear an earring in this ear. In the movie the character also wears an earring, and he would ask me: ‘why are you wearing the earring in that ear? And I said: ‘because yes, I don’t know’. But he went into a kind of paranoia thinking that he had a message… and then in the movie I have the earring glued to the other ear”.
What do you think of Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu’s attitude towards Rubén Ochandiano? The director has never mentioned anything about it. Filming took place in 2008, a time when there was already acceptance of sexual diversity.
