It’s nearly impossible to prevent consoles from being damaged over their lifetime, or to keep them completely free of dust. There are even issues that come from the assembly line, like the infamous Nintendo Switch Joy-Con drift issue.
However, not many players can say that his console was in such bad shape that the TSA (Transportation Security Administration) he mistook it for a bomb. Well, that was what happened last Sunday, April 17, since a PlayStation was so damaged that it was unrecognizable to the employees of the Boston Logan International Airport.
The PlayStation The damaged item was discovered mid-afternoon at the airport, and was considered a suspicious item by the TSA. The PlayStation was deemed “such a threat” that the passengers in Terminal A had to be evacuated, and a bomb disposal unit was dispatched.
According to a statement from Massachusetts State Police spokesman Dave Procopio, the console’s external features were mostly fine, but on X-ray, it showed internal issues that caused concern.
It’s unclear what these PlayStation abnormalities were, or even what kind of PlayStation it was that caused this confusion. Fans are hoping it’s not a PlayStation 5 in such bad shape that it can’t be properly identified with an X-ray.
Although the situation has improved since 2020, the PlayStation 5 is still difficult to get hold of for many players, due to resellers and other problems that persist within the console market. Someone manhandling a new console to the point of rendering it unrecognizable would probably anger a lot of fans who still want to get their own.
Logan International Airport was closed for more than an hour, and passengers who had already boarded their planes were also ordered to evacuate. No information about the whereabouts of the PlayStation or its owner has been released.
We just hope that both its owner and the console can be reunited soon, if only for the player to clean it up.
