The games of the RPG genre have been with us for quite some time, where from time to time, proposals appear that somehow manage to add elements to differentiate themselves from the rest, in a genre that hardly offers innovations in its mechanics. On this occasion, I have had the opportunity to enter the adventure of Airoheart, a title that brings absolutely everything from the RPG of yesteryear, transporting us to that time where the zenith camera was the main topic.
Airoheart is an indie game that, without being pretentious in what it provokes the player, attracts and attracts attention by how well its elements are connected, delivering a deep and entertaining story, good traditional mechanics and a high level of exploration, although without great innovations. do you want to know what is it about? I invite you to read my review of Airoheart on Xbox Series X.
Leaks: Do they help or worsen the expectations of a game?
A good mix of love, doubts and betrayal
One of the elements that stands out the most in this classic RPG is, without a doubt, its story, which advances and develops in a very successful way, with Quite interesting narratives and script twists, causing you to want to continue playing until the end. Broadly speaking and without going into spoilers, the protagonist named Airoheart will have to discover his brother’s evil plan, finding himself in the middle of a war between two factions in search of the so-called Soul Stone, which houses an ancient and powerful secret.
RPGs have always been characterized by their good stories, which are the engines behind the mechanics and exploration. In airoheart It is not different, since the story will be the main path that we will have to follow to be able to evolve our character, get valuable objects and discover the exciting world of Engard. Although the story is well told, with nuances and details that will surprise us throughout the game, with expressions of feelings such as self-love, insecurity and betrayal, it really does not bring anything new to the genre, staying in an excellent story, but very conventional.
Melancholy and tradition in every corner
Turning to the gameplay section, Airoheart stands out for several things, but what is most striking is how functional and traditional its controls are, where the mechanics remind us of the best of the RPG of yesteryear, like Pokémon or Zelda for example. Its bases are well defined, which causes the feeling of instant progression, where exploring and fighting will become a fairly entertaining routine, albeit with its limitations.
The game stands out mainly for being a traditional RPG without more or less, that is, we will have to explore the map in search of answers from the missions that we have. In this sense, the game behaves well, with a high degree of objects to discover, dungeons to go through and enemies to kill, all very minimalist in style. In this sense, Airoheart is entertaining and dynamic, with objects that we can use in the confrontations, such as weapons and spells, but again, it does not add anything new to the formula, it is a game very attached to tradition.
Big darling pixel by pixel
Regarding the technical section, I must say that the game looks really good, without any problem in terms of graphics and sound. Everything is so well worked and cared for that the details are the most noticeable, and they enchant from the first moment.
The developers have opted for the aesthetics of the old RPG, with pastel colors throughout the world, where the pixelated image is a clear portrait and tribute to those games that marked an entire generation. The title runs at exquisite and stable 4K and 60 fps, and can be enjoyed in great quality. It is true that a project like this does not ask for much power from the console, quite the contrary, but it is appreciated that they have put the effort into those details that make the difference in gameplay.
Another of the sections that strongly caught my attention and I really liked was the sound, especially the music, since it internalizes us and transports us to the world of the game, being a really tempting and inspiring companion. I emphasize the music over the sound effects, since although these are correctly achieved, they do not really stand out in the story. On the contrary, the ambient, incidental and dungeon music is an auditory delight, very enjoyable for long hours.
Airoheart Review – Conclusions
There are many RPG games, too many really, but only a few really stand out for their mechanics, history or innovative elements. Airoheart is an honest game, without great pretensions, that seeks to transport its players to the time of the first games of this style, and boy does it succeed.
Although its elements do not really stand out to change paradigms or innovate within the indie genre, they do manage to captivate the player, with simple but functional aspects that attract and lead to completely finishing the game. I personally liked it a lot, because I was able to see the honesty behind the project, an honesty that only invites you to enjoy, relax and transport yourself to past times.
