The airlines in the CDMX must make their transfer to the AIFA.
The Official Gazette of the Federation published that they will give 108 days to cargo companies.
Operating costs would end up being absorbed by consumers.
Yesterday, the decree revoking the permit to carry out cargo operations in the International Airport of Mexico City (AICM); In this way, the only option for airlines that carry out cargo flights to travel in Mexico City will be through the Felipe Angeles International Airport (AIFA).
And it is that, according to what is indicated in the document, in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF)companies will not have 90 days to make the change of operations, but 108 days, as established by its fifth article.
Airlines will arrive at AIFA; will your package arrive home?
Despite this ultimatum, the International Air Transport Association (IATA)working hand in hand with the Ministry of Communications and Transportation, has considered that the AIFA infrastructure is not ready at this time to carry out a transfer of operations of such magnitude. In the same way, despite the increase in days, they questioned the urgency with which this transition would be carried out.
And it is that, the air cargo industry requested, at least, 180 days for its transfer, that is, double the days initially indicated.
According to this, the cargo airlines must carefully examine and analyze the two air terminals and their transfer possibilities, although it has been shared that this type of flight represents only three percent of the flights that take place in the AICM.
And it is that, although it has been indicated that the cargo airlines have organized meetings with the intention of taking their operations to other airports outside the AIFA, the Government has not given its arm to twist completely, because of this is the result of the extension of days to migration.
What happens with the packages in the CDMX?
A few days ago, Estafeta announced that among so many problems, there are two that could complicate the transfer of cargo. The first would be that this change would cost at least 60 to 70 million pesos to operate.
And it is that, although he considered that the AIFA has good facilities and effective connections to operate, the truth is that to do so requires a longer time, mainly due to costs, infrastructure and logistics.
With this, the Airport must also invest in optimizing its operations as well, to facilitate the transfer of other companies.
On the other hand, it should be considered that the Arco Norte highway is considered one of the most dangerous, so that would also complicate transfers not only by air, but also by land. This, therefore, would perhaps require alternate aspects such as custody for transfers.
In this way, perhaps the packages will arrive in the same way that they do, but the operating expenses will be absorbed by the consumers. For this reason, it shouldn’t surprise anyone if, in half a year, shipping costs go up on your purchases.
