It is hoped that the center train more than 100 health professionals a year. One of the most relevant aspects is that it has state-of-the-art technology to show how highly specialized procedures are performed.
In this regard, the Dr. Ariel Ortizwho is president of the IIMM and founder of the Academy of Surgical Innovation, mentioned that doctors perform several functions. A very important one that is often forgotten is sharing knowledge. He said that it is not worth storing data if it is not shared with other colleagues to generate synergy.
“We are very proud to open the doors of the academy and start activities. Our objective is to promote the constant updating of doctors in terms of tools, innovative technologies and minimally invasive surgery techniques to impact greater efficiency in hospital resources”.
For his part, Hector Orellana, Vice President and General Director of Medtronic Mexico and Central America, added that this type of initiative is essential to access better health care. He also recalled that 7 out of 10 Mexicans have some degree of overweight or obesity2.
“That is why we decided that in this first stage we will start with an emphasis on offering training for specialists in bariatric surgery, but little by little we will integrate more specialties.”
In this way, the Academy of Surgical Innovation has the objective of training surgeons of excellence. One of his priorities is to promote minimally invasive surgical procedures because they are the ones that allow the reduction of hospitalization time. When this happens, not only does the patient recover in less time, but the costs for health institutions also decrease.
