Online dating has already become a common activity in today’s romanticism. Statista data forecasts nearly 280 million online dating users by 2024.
Now, with data from a recent survey conducted by Dating.com, an online matchmaking platform, the numbers say that many singles are willing to take their search for love into the metaverse. According to the survey, those looking for love continue to turn to technology: 33% of singles plan to date in the metaverse.
The survey noted that the use of metaverse avatars can help put the emphasis on “digital communication and intimacy over face-to-face encounters.”
Also, the metaverse is a world without borders, which can lead to singles meeting from anywhere:
“With advances in dating app technology and the metaverse, more and more daters are open to making connections that span different cities, countries, and even continents.”
The survey revealed that a third of all respondents said they were open to relationships with people outside of their local geographic region.
New data reveals that consumer interest in the metaverse is trending upwards. Data from Capgemini, a business and technology strategy advisor, indicates that Over 90% of consumers are curious about the metaverse.
Digital identity and, more specifically, identity in the metaverse has been one of the main topics of conversation for both users and developers over the past year.
As various real-world industries move into digital reality, the tools available to users to create a digital identity either through accessories of a legacy brand or owning a land in virtual reality, our digital selves have the potential to speak volumes about who we are and our status.
However, as more personal data is transferred to digital reality to create the most realistic version of users, the identity theft risk and other crimes.
A recent Kaspersky survey revealed that exploits and abuse of the metaverse are expected to increase in the coming year.
