In the first season of Smallville we met characters who live in the hometown of the Kent family, such as Lana Lang and Peter Ross who made their debut in the pages of comics, and also debuted the character of Whitney Fordman, played by Eric Johnson.
Whitney Fordman was the quarterback of the Smallville High School football team and the boyfriend of Lana Lang. Fordman felt hatred for Clark Kent as Lana started having feelings for him.
Towards the end of the first season Fordman joins the United States Navy so Lana breaks up with him. Whitney Fordman returns for the second season of the series, but this Fordman was an importor, since the real one had died at the beginning of the second season.
From Smallville to Man Of Steel
In Man of Steel Whitney Fordman was played by Robert Gerdisch, who was present when Clark saves the school bus from falling into the river.
“Lana saw it, and the Fordman boy did too.”, mentions Lana Lang’s mother to Martha Kent when describing Clark’s selfless actions.
Gerdisch was also part of the scene where several boys pick on Clark who is reading a philosophy book. Fordman is the one who leads this group, which leaves when they see Jonathan Kent.
The incorporation of Whitney Fordman to Man of Steel is one of the contributions that the series that starred Tom Welling at the beginning of the 21st century was incorporated into the Superman mythology.
In Supergirl there was a nod to the character of Chloe Sullivan, when in its second season Kara and her sister Alex travel to Midvale, where they investigate the murder of a friend from youth. When a technological problem arises, Kara suggests Alex call Chloe, the friend of her cousin Clark.
