We return to Barcelona to visit an apartment located in Vila Olímpica recently renovated by the Tinda´´´´´´ s Project studio. The property’s peculiarity is its triangular floor plan, which has been transformed to adapt to the new needs of its new owners, a married couple with a daughter wanted “a larger room, more light, more storage space and modern spaces”.
Eva Mesa’s team took up the challenge and to achieve it, they eliminated the old corridors of the apartment, dispensed with the hall, eliminated a bedroom (from four to three bedrooms) and placed the kitchen next to the dining room so that the day zone was more connected.
Day zone; living-dining room and connected kitchen
The living room has gained meters by dispensing with the hall. Now the entrance leads you to this larger and brighter room that also connects with the terrace, the kitchen and the rest of the house. This connection encourages visual interaction and makes coexistence more pleasant.
The kitchen also stands out for its size. Its U-shaped arrangement and its proximity to the dining room (previously it was in the opposite corner of the living room) make its use more comfortable. Although it constitutes an independent space, it is separated from the living room through glass windows, so colors and materials similar to those of the dining room were chosen for the kitchen, which seems to be a natural extension of the space.
Next to the access to the kitchen the dining room has been placed. A space that surprises with its original design. As the sofa was made to measure, the Tinda’s Project team designed a bench as it rests on the back of the sofa. A bench that serves as a seat for several diners at the same time it includes a hinged lid that opens and serves to store things.
Both the living room and the dining room share the atmosphere and neutral tones and materials. In front of the large custom-made sofa, a piece of furniture has been designed that includes shelves, it serves as a support for the television and incorporates an appealing bioethanol fireplace.
Master bedroom and bathroom
From one end of the living room there is access to the master bedroom which is located in its original location, in the tightest angle of the triangular floor plan. At the entrance or access area is the dressing room with cabinets, and custom furniture that includes the side tables in an elegant taupe gray.
The headboard and the armchair by the window, which make up a pleasant reading corner, share the same upholstery.
The touches of black dot some corners of the living room and also the bathroom (with black taps and screens) which is accessed from the entrance and that has an elegant and timeless aesthetic thanks to the wall and floor covering, travertine marble finish.
Youth bedroom
The color note is in this bedroom which is accessed from a small distributor that is located next to the kitchen. The wall on which the bed rests It has been painted a lively and cheerful aquamarine green. The room has two windows that mark and zone the environments. On the one hand the sleeping area and under the other window a practical desk with shelves has been designed as a study area that rests on one side on the closet, also made to measure to take advantage of the angle of the wall.
On the other side of the distributor is the bathroom that serves the girl but is also for guests. That is why it is a complete bathroom, but for its finishes it has again opted for neutral and timeless colors.
One of the most striking things about this bathroom is the double height, since the toilet and shower are on two steps. A solution to get the downspouts and the water intakes to an area where before the renovation they did not reach. The solution, far from worsening the aesthetics of the bathroom, is a perfectly integrated element of distinction thanks to the continuity of the floor that gives a sense of continuity.
The third room (located where the kitchen was initially located) is now a practical guest bedroom which is accessed from a small corridor that leads to the hall and in which a small closed space of just two square meters has also been placed for the washing machine and dryer.
