The Last of Us Part II introduced new enemies to the franchise, and among them are the Shamblers. These spore-covered infected grotesques already look extremely terrifying, but they didn’t always look that way originally.
A recent leak by Matthew gallant, main systems designer in the game, revealed that the initial design of the Shamblers It was very similar to what we saw in the final product, with the exception that when it exploded, its spores were going to come from its backside. Specifically, the player had to shoot these enemies in the butt, which was not only gigantic, but was also covered in reddened and rotting skin.
Easy to understand why Naughty dog decided to make this change, as having to surround the Shamblers to shoot them in the butt sounded like a tedious thing. In the end, his design turned out to be just as grotesque, but his weak point, like many other enemies in the game, was in his head.
