Months ago it was leaked that WhatsApp was preparing a new function to allow us send single-use photos and videos, that is, they disappear after seeing them once. At the end of June, we could see it in the beta and on WhatsApp web, but it is now when it officially reaches the stable version of the application.
Facebook itself has confirmed this in a publication where it ensures that this new feature aims to offer users greater control over their privacy. Next, we explain how they are shipped and can be viewed those photos or videos that, once opened, self-destruct.
How to send and view self-destructing photos
As explained by Facebook, the single-use photos and videos function (or single-view, as it calls them) it will progressively reach all users from all platforms this week. Therefore, if you still do not have it, do not despair, it is a matter of hours or days that you can use it.
Sending photos and videos that self-destruct is as simple as sending any image, we simply have to press a button first to indicate that we only want it to be visible onceIt does not matter if it is stored in the gallery or we capture it at that moment with the camera. The steps are the following:
Click on the camera icon to capture the image or on the clip to attach it from the gallery.
Take the photo or record the video you want to send (or select an image that you have saved).
Press the “1” icon that appears on the right and sends the photo or video.
When you press that “1” button, you will get the notice “Photo set to be viewed only once”. If you change your mind, just press it again to send the photo as usual.
And what do you have to do to see the photos that self-destruct? Very simple: if someone sends you a photo or video by WhatsApp that can only be viewed once, the preview of the image will not appear in the chat, but a message with the “1” and the word “Photo”. Tap on it to open the photo in full screen.
There is no time limit to have the photo open and there is no nothing to stop you from taking a screenshot screen to save it, but you have to know that, as soon as you close it and return to the chat, you will not be able to see it again (unless you use some of the tricks that we have told you in other posts).
Obviously, if you send a single view photo or video, the media files will not be saved in the recipient’s Photos or Gallery sections. You will also not be able to forward it, star it or share it, and if it has been opened, it will not be backed up and cannot be restored.
Another important thing to keep in mind is that the recipient You have 14 days to view the photo or video from the moment it was sent; then the file disappears from the chat even though it was not opened.
You, as a sender, can only see if the recipient opened a photo or video single view if it has read receipts enabled. And something very important: every time you want to send an image to self-destruct, you must press the button, if not, it will be sent “normally”.
