Apple is already working on an iPhone SE by 2022. According to the latest reports, it will be the company’s cheapest 5G mobile phone and will enjoy similar features to the higher-end models. Apple, however, seems to refuses to retire the chassis that came with the iPhone 8.
Middle Asian Nikkei ensures that the iPhone SE of 2022 will arrive with the same screen size as the current generation: 4.7 inches. It will also include look identical to last year’s model. It will therefore maintain pronounced frames on the front, Touch ID and slightly rounded edges. A strange strategy on the part of Apple, especially considering that there are Android phones for less than 400 euros with a much more modern look.
Apple, yes, seems to have its reasons. Design seems to be one of the fundamental factors for maintain an affordable priceAbove all, taking into account that the rest of the specifications will be very similar to those of a high-end mobile. Reusing the chassis from last year’s model would lower production costs. Including the body of the iPhone 12 or 13 mini could be an interesting alternative, but it would imply including Face ID, which in turn has components that could increase the price of the device.
The iPhone SE 2022 does not pretend to compete in design
On the other hand, and given that the specifications will be very similar to those of the iPhone 13, maintaining a less striking or current design could prevent sales of superior models from being hurt.
Apple would not need to include a design that competes with the rest of Android terminals. After all, the SE range is proposed as an alternative for those users who want to spend little money on a mobile, but want enjoy the functionalities that the company offers. Among them, FaceTime or other Apple services, which are not present in Android.
Finally, the iPhone SE, could come with the A15 Bionic chip, as well as 5G connectivity. Previous rumors claimed that the company would keep the A14 Bionic chip. That is, the same processor as the iPhone 12. A strategy with little sense, since Apple usually opts for the current models of processors in its iPhone.
This model will also be an alternative for users looking for a compact mobile. Apple, remember, will not launch an iPhone 14 mini. Instead, the company would announce an iPhone 14 Max, with a 6.7-inch screen and slightly lower specifications compared to the Pro Max model.
