“We realized that, as with assembled furniture, there was an opportunity to touch this market that was a bit neglected,” says Alonso. “The intention is that the client can visit and buy our furniture, but that, additionally, he can live the experience of these houses made with containers”, he adds.
The director acknowledges that it is not a concept of house that most people like, but there is a part of the population that is interested in this form of housing, which in some geographical areas is cheaper compared to the traditional offer . For now, in this project they have received potential buyers, which Alonso considers a good result since it allows them to know the potential of the market.
In Europe and the United States the trend is towards these buildings, while in Mexico there are different projects made with these materials, which are related to the construction of gyms, offices, tourist complexes and dark kitchenswhich boomed during the pandemic.
Containers have the advantage of faster and more sustainable construction, not only because shipping containers are recycled, but also because the number of new materials is reduced during construction. These modular buildings can be inhabited for a lifetime, like a traditional home, as long as the necessary maintenance is given.
Casa TuGow prefabricated houses have three sizes: 60, 118 and 160 square meters. And although the cost of the smallest has a price of 1 million 799,000 pesos, it can vary according to the floor finishes and coatings that customers prefer for their home.
Alonso says that for this year it is not planned to take this concept to other cities in the country, but the company does have the objective of taking it to other cities, and even expand the offer and bring more of these modular construction systems to the market and offer credits to buy them.
“An important part for us is that clients decide to furnish their projects with our furniture and that is where the business is rounded off and vertically integrated,” says the CEO of TuGow.
TuGow is a furniture store that was born in 2017 on the digital channel. Its offer, of furniture to assemble, which has seen the market consolidate with the arrival of IKEA in Mexico, and already has six show rooms in different cities of the country, but only in Guadalajara you can visit the houses built with containers.
