In a new clip close to the premiere of Morbius, Jared Leto explains the character’s history, from comics to the big screen.
In a brief clip before Morbius’ final trailer, actor Jared Leto gives us a very quick overview of the character’s history. During the video, Leto reminds us that the Living Vampire debuted in the pages of The Amazing Spider-Man #101 (October 1971) after several years of Marvel Comics moving away from supernatural characters.
The actor refers to the self-censorship to which the cartoon industry was subjected due to the Comics Code Authority that prevented them from using vampires and other supernatural beings, which was modified in 1971 thanks to a Spider-Man story.
In that year, Stan Lee wrote a story for Spider-Man dealing with drug use. The plot was created at the request of the United States Department of Health, and lacking the approval of the Comics Code Authority committee, Lee decided to publish it without the seal of the organization.
The good reception of the story among the public led the industry to update the Comics Code Authority, making room for supernatural beings.
