Since before the PS5 was revealed to the public, rumors indicated that this console was going to be backward compatible with all generations of this company. While this remains unrealistic, a new patent filing by Mark Cerny, architect of the PS5, It seems to indicate that this dream would finally come to pass in the future.
It was recently discovered that on January 6, Mark Cerny filed a patent that describes a method that provides compatibility with programs designed for earlier versions of a computer system. Immediately, speculation about a backward-compatible system for the PS5 began to circulate on the internet.
Although at the moment there is no official information, last year a report emerged that indicated that PlayStation was already working on a competitor for the Xbox Game Pass, known as Spartacus. which would offer a subscription service with PS1, PS2, PS3 and PSP games. Thus, many have pointed out that the recent patent is related to this project.
We can only wait to have official information and, If the reports turn out to be correct, we will have more details in the spring of this year.. On related issues, Sony has started to discontinue PS Now prepaid cards in different markets. Similarly, these were the most downloaded games from the PS Store in 2021.
Editor’s Note:
The idea of a PS5 compatible with all generations of PlayStation is extremely attractive. However, the description of Spartacus more closely resembles Nintendo Switch Online. Still, this is something that will catch the eye of much of the gaming audience.
