President Andrés Manuel López Obrador dismissed the ministers of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) as insensitive for having ordered in recent days the Tax Administration Service (SAT) to return around 1,000 million pesos of taxes to Carmela Azcárraga Milmo.
In his daily press conference, the federal president regretted that the ministers have not weighed the millionaire figure that will have to be delivered in the face of origin failures in the amparo process.
“The ministers of the Court are not concerned, they sleep soundly. Imagine what it means to deliver 1,000 million, how many scholarships for children with disabilities, vaccines, support for the poorest people, they are insensitive. Because they can claim that the law is the law and what and where is justice? ”, Reproached the head of the federal Executive.

On August 19, the Second Chamber of the Court ordered the SAT to return to Carmela Azcárraga Milmo 338.9 million pesos in taxes that she paid in 2007 for the sale of shares in a Televisa subsidiary. To this amount, updates accumulated over 14 years are added.
Given the impact that the return of this amount can have on the government’s finances, López Obrador trusted that a dialogue table can be established so that resources can be recovered.
“How are they not going to realize that it is a question of 1,000 million pesos, that they are not there to impart justice? That is a problem that we have, then, if an agreement can be reached to recover resources, because we have already done it, we did it in the case of gas, in prisons and other cases, “said the president.
Azcárraga paid the taxes in 2007, but requested the refund immediately, as this payment was made based on the Income Tax Law on earnings from the sale of shares, which the Court had declared unconstitutional.
The Court granted the amparo since, during the trial of first instance, the Federal Court of Administrative Justice acted as a coadjuvant to supply errors of the SAT, since the Local Administration of North Revenue of the then Federal District never answered the request for refund of Azcárraga Milmo, who died in February 2020.
