More than 60 percent of the world’s population. I am referring to Google, the technological giant that was established 24 years ago and that recently celebrated 17 years of presence in Mexico.
Google has changed our lives and has done so to the point of knowing our consumption habits and tastes, suggesting leisure activities and making our lives easier, even though we have become dependent on technology for this. It is the most used search engine. It belongs to the third largest company in the world. It performs more than 3,500 million searches daily in 0.19 seconds each.
Two decades ago, libraries and newspaper archives were the most reliable sources of information and encyclopedias the best allies of knowledge. However, from time to time, Internet access has substituted that effort to learn and learn with the convenience of a click. Access to world knowledge in real time has opened us up to the world almost at the same time that it has closed off our capacity for effort, attention and even wonder.
Who does not know today the neologism “googling” or “googling”? It means “search the web using the Google search engine”, according to Wikipedia. The American Dialect Society chose the verb to google as the most useful verb of 2008. Although the director of the Royal Spanish Academy has repeatedly stated the “possibility” of including the word in his dictionary, this has not happened.
Google is, today, one of the most important companies in the world. A business focused entirely on the Internet and new technologies, which is known for the epicenter of all its activity, its web browser. This company has to its credit the search engine par excellence, the portal that all users enter when they connect to search for everything they want.
The most famous and used search engine in the world turned 17 in Mexico. Even its creators, whom we would now call ‘geeks’ (a term that did not exist two decades ago either), were unaware of the extent of their passion for technology and their revolutionary idea that would give birth to a giant. Google has an offer of more than 150 languages and is present in 190 countries.
