Use these natural hair oils. They can be very useful if it is damaged and therefore dry. Do not overdo it to avoid contrary effects.
There are many reasons why hair becomes weak and damaged: heat from the dryer, styling instruments, weather conditions, and chemical treatments. In this way, when the hair is damaged, it looks dull, frizzy, very thin, but especially fragile.
Many times, to repair hair, we don’t have to buy expensive products. Just look for homemade alternatives. Therefore, here we bring you some natural hair oils. Do you dare?
Avocado oil
Avocado oil is high in nutrients, essential fatty acids, and amino acids, as well as vitamins A, B, D, and E. These vitamins have antioxidant power and are involved in the production of collagen.
By promoting the generation of collagen, it helps strengthen hair and revitalize its natural shine. Therefore, it is excellent to use as a natural softener and in addition, it is ideal in hydration treatments.
Application
- Use it as a mask applying it on the hair and leaving it to act for 15-20 minutes.
- Then wash with the usual shampoo and rinse so that the hair is smooth and nourished.
Castor oil
The castor oil is known for stimulating hair growth and reduce its fall. In addition, it contributes in the following actions:
- Hydrate hair follicles.
- Decrease dryness.
- Combat split ends.
Application
- Apply a little castor oil to the scalp, for example with a dyeing brush, preferably with damp hair.
- Massage the entire surface where castor oil was applied for 3 to 5 minutes so that it penetrates the scalp. Make small circular movements with your fingertips.
- With the help of a comb, separate the portions of hair so that the oil spreads along the rest of the hair and penetrates all sectors. You can leave a few more drops in your hands to distribute it evenly. Do not forget the tips, which are always the most punished and the most exposed.
- Wear a bathing cap so you can sleep through the night with this natural hair treatment.
- The next morning, wash with plenty of water and shampoo.
This same procedure should be repeated three times a week for best results. If you notice that castor oil is getting too thick, you can lighten it with a little bit of other natural hair oils: coconut oil or almond oil.
Olive oil
In addition to the health benefits as a food ingredient proclaimed for centuries, olive oil has gained popularity in recent years in its cosmetic use for hair. Such is her popularity that she has become known as “the godmother” of natural hair oils.
The reason? Thanks to its high content of oleic acid, tocopherols and phenolic compounds and the good penetration into the hair that this content favors, it provides the following attributes:
- Smoothness.
- Elasticity.
- Brightness.
- Hydration, as it favors water retention.
- Strengthening, as it nourishes the deepest part of the hair.
- Regeneration.
Since the scalp receives more moisture and removes dead cells, it can be a good ally in the treatment of dandruff. Also, keep in mind that its content in natural peroxides will help lighten hair if used consistently.
All the mentioned benefits will be enhanced with the use of an extra virgin oil due to its high content of active compounds.
Application
- As it is an oil that penetrates the hair follicle, it is best to apply it with dry hair before washing it. If the hair is wet, the water that has penetrated could hinder the absorption of the oil.
- The oil penetrates better with heat. So, put half a cup of olive oil and heat it about 20 or 30 seconds in the microwave. Check that it is not too hot.
- Drizzle the hair with olive oil from the roots to the ends. If you prefer, you can use a brush or a brush to spread the oil more easily. If you have oily hair, it is recommended not to apply it to the scalp area to avoid excessive sebum production.
- Massage the scalp to stimulate circulation and thus strengthen the hair follicles for about 5 minutes.
- Cover the hair with a hot towel for about 10 minutes and wash the hair in the usual way.
In general, this procedure is repeated once a week. However, in case of dry hair, you can increase its application until you feel more nourished.
Rosemary oil
Rosemary oil is a great stimulant for follicles and, therefore, promotes hair growth. In this way, it helps prevent loss and reduce itching.
These benefits are attributed to its niacin content, as this vitamin has a powerful effect as a blood vessel dilator. The blood activation and the stimulation of the capillary irrigation contribute to the strengthening of the hair, and thus it is possible to fight against its fall. In turn, it contains other vitamins and minerals that intervene in the process.
Also, due to its color, it tends to darken hair and, therefore, gray hair, or to delay its appearance.
Application
In general, it is applied together with a wet towel on dry and damaged hair. If it is very fatty, it is not recommended. You can also add a few drops of the oil to your regular shampoo since it provides nutrients to care for the scalp and hair follicles. The application will vary depending on the function sought.
If you are looking to revitalize hair:
- Apply a little oil on the hand and massage the hair. Apply to the ends and comb the hair with your fingers.
- Leave to act for about 30 minutes.
- Wash the hair in the usual way.
If you are looking to delay hair loss:
- Apply a little oil on the hand and massage the scalp and the rest to the tips. Comb the hair with your fingers.
- Cover with a bathing cap and let the oil work overnight.
- The next morning, wash your hair as usual.
If you are looking to fight dandruff:
- Mix it with the shampoo and wash the hair every other day. Do not overdo it. About 5 drops are calculated for every 30 ml of product.
You can apply it once to twice a week. Be careful not to overdo it in the application, as it could irritate the skin and cause discomfort. To avoid this irritation, dilute it with another natural oil, such as almond or olive oil.
There are still no accurate data on the safety of the use of this oil during pregnancy or lactation. Check with your doctor.
Almonds oil
The almond oil has many healthy nutrients, vitamins and minerals -fats that contribute to look healthy and strong hair. It acts as a sealer, that is, it forms a protective layer on the strand of the hair that allows it to retain moisture and prevent the loss of hydration in it.
Thus, it protects and hydrates the hair fibers and eliminates the accumulation of dead cells.
Thanks to its numerous properties, it favors the following actions:
- Stimulate and provoke growth.
- Bring shine and softness.
- Avoid, to a large extent, hair loss.
- Hydrate and nourish hair.
- Smooth the cuticle and control flaking of the hair.
- Restore hair fibers and split ends.
- Reduce dandruff and the typical itching it brings.
It is one of the most chosen natural hair oils since it is light and easy to spread. In addition, it is quickly absorbed, so it does not leave that sticky or greasy feeling on the hair.
Application
There are several ways of application. Each of these treatments focuses on solving a specific problem. In general, it is applied to the hair with a message insisting on the ends and the means. Leave it on for about 20 minutes, covering the hair with a towel or a plastic cap. After that time, wash with the usual shampoo.
Like the rest of the oils, it is recommended to use it once a week or two if the hair is very dry.
Coconut oil
The coconut oil is much lighter than other oils and is one of the few oils whose benefits have been proven scientifically.
According to a study in which its use was analyzed, coconut oil was more effective than others in preventing the loss of hair proteins, essential to preserve the integrity of the hair and prevent it from falling out. Apparently, this quality of coconut oil is due to its lauric acid content.
Application
As in the previous cases, the application will vary depending on the intended use: as a moisturizing treatment, anti-dandruff, etc. In general, the procedure is as follows:
- Massage into the scalp with a small amount of coconut oil.
- Let stand for at least 10 minutes. If you use it before bed, you can let it sit overnight. In that case, we recommend you cover it with a bathing cap or cover the pillow with a towel.
- Finally, wash your hair with the usual shampoo.
As a detangling cream, you can apply a small amount after the shower from the middle of the hair to the ends.
Shea butter, additional advice to natural hair oils
It is an extract obtained from the nuts of an African tree of the same name, whose meaning is “butter tree”.
Although it is not an oil, it is an excellent solution to achieve healthy hair, especially if we have it dry and dull, as butter restores all the vitality it lacks.
Its properties favor hydration: its main virtue. Also, being rich in vitamins A, D, E and F, it becomes ideal for nourishing hair. Thanks to these two properties, moisturizing and nourishing, shea butter favors protection against the effects of the environment: wind, cold, sun, pollution, etc.
Due to the extreme softness it provides, it is considered the best natural conditioner available. Therefore, it is known as “the conditioner of mother nature.”
It is great for curly hair that naturally tends to be drier than other types of hair. In fact, it is frequently found in curly hair treatments due to its moisturizing qualities.
Application
There are many ways to use shea butter on your hair. If you are looking for a moisturizing action, the most recommended is:
- Apply to damp hair before bed, preferably medium to ends. It is not necessary that you use too much product because later it will be difficult to clarify it.
- Let stand overnight until the next morning. The butter will work all night, and the hair will absorb the keratin.
- When you wake up, rinse and remove the butter. You will probably have to repeat the wash several times.
