Don’t Miss: The Definitive Collection of Marvel Graphic Novels
Planet Hulk became one of the disruptive stories for Hulk, taking him to new scenarios and giving him the prominence that fans asked for for many years, through a large dose of action and adrenaline located in the distant Sakaar.
Although there are subtle differences with reference to the comic (for example the change of the Red King by The Grandmaster as ruler of Sakaar) Planet Hulk contributed valuable elements for the realization of Thor: Ragnarok, a film that Marvel Studios premiered in 2017 and has become one of the fan favorites.
Discover the most important elements that Planet Hulk brought to Thor: Ragnarok
Sakaar
Despite the circumstances in which the Hulk and Thor arrive in this place, Sakaar is a new land to explore in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Sakaar is the planet where the Hulk arrives, after the Illuminati decided to expel him from the earth to prevent him from causing more damage, so the Emerald Giant arrives angry, confused and ready to fight for his life.
Hulk warrior
In a hostile environment, the Hulk offers himself as a warrior, making him the Red King’s favorite fighter, rather than the film directed by Taika Waititi.
The difference compared to the comic is that the Hulk’s path is not followed as the great warrior of Sakaar, something that is presented when confronting Thor.
Hulk’s banishment on earth
The Planet Hulk plot would not have been possible if the Emerald Giant had not been removed from earth by the Illuminati, who viewed the Hulk as a danger to their allies and the planet.
In the MCU Hulk arrives at Sakaar after the Avengers quinjet goes off the radar and reaches the Einsten-Rosen Bridge, or better known as Wormhole that sent him to the inhospitable Sakaar.
Miek and Korg
In this story by Greg Pak we meet two aliens who will be important in the history of Hulk, and in later plots like World War Hulk, Miek and Korg, two aliens who are forced to be fighters in Sakaar.
In the cinema, this pair of aliens is presented as Thor’s cellmates and later they become great allies of the God of Thunder, whom we will possibly see in the next adventure Thor: Love and Thunder.
Slave liberation
One of the climatic points of Planet Hulk is the revolt of gladiators who seek to stop being the war pawns of the Red King, so the Hulk becomes a guide to overthrow this tyrant.
In Thor: Ragnarok this revolt of gladiators occurs as part of the plan devised by Thor, Valkerye and Bruce Banner to leave Sakaar and head to Asgard. The slaves also escape from Asgard and after Thanos’ attack and the events that ended half the universe, These slaves find in New Asgard a place to continue their lives.
