The 2023 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity gave the details related to the number of entries.
The novelty, before the event officially begins next Monday, June 19, is that 26,992 cases from 86 different countries were registered. This is an advance on 2022, but still well below the high volumes of 2015, 2016 and 2017.
The almost 27,000 pieces registered this year represent an increase of 6 percent compared to the 25,465 in 2022.
However, with more perspective, the value is below the number of jobs in 2021 (which included those in 2020) and notably less than the more than 43,100 cases in 2016, when the record was set.
Obviously, 2018 was the year that marked the biggest drop in the number of registrations for the festival of creativity.
It must be remembered that that year there was strong criticism of the organization, especially from prominent professionals in the advertising industry, particularly from the WPP and Publicis holdings.
In the 2023 edition, organizers say an 18 percent increase in the number of entries from consumer brand companies is very positive, something they say demonstrates the value placed on creativity that drives sales. business. On the other hand, the organization of the festival values as positive the inclusion of a new category: Entertainment Lions for Gaming, which in its debut will have 609 pieces in competition.
Cannes Lions 2023 organizers also say there was a 16 per cent increase in the number of entries to compete for the Brand Experience & Activation Lions category, something that “reflects the brand renewal focus and concern for improving customer experiences and brand building.”
Another interesting fact is that from one year to the next the number of Creative Strategy Lions jobs increased by 35 percent.
Creative Business Transformation Lions, meanwhile, saw its entries grow by 59 percent between 2022 and 2023. This category is now in its third year at the most important event in world advertising.
Registrations for Glass: The Lion for Change and Innovation Lions, meanwhile, increased by 30 percent.
