In March 2020, 10% of the vehicles on the road in Norway were electric, and the association estimates that in a matter of two years that proportion could reach 30%.
Norway has set itself the goal that by 2025 all its new vehicles will be electric or run on hydrogen.
These types of vehicles benefit from advantages such as an almost total exemption from paying taxes, a reduced price in urban tolls and public parking lots or the possibility -for some- of using the lanes reserved for public transport.
Currently, about 80% of registrations are electric vehicles.
However, the authorities began to limit some of those advantages recently.
From January 1, the exemption from paying VAT (25%) on the purchase of an electric vehicle will only apply to models that cost less than 500,000 kroons (about 47,000 euros, 50,000 dollars).
Thus, high-end vehicles (such as those from the Tesla house or some Mercedes or Audi models) will not benefit from this tax reduction.
