Youtube is today perhaps the video platform for streaming most popular on the planet and at this point we could consider that for many it is already part of our daily routine on the Internet.
At this time, perhaps most of the spotlight is focused on services such as Netflix, Disney Plus or especially hbo maxAfter the end of the first season of House of the Dragon.
But the reality is that YouTube has been a true survivor that has managed to remain and continue to evolve. From its beginnings as a site to share short videos to the present, which constitutes an almost infinite catalog of content of all kinds from any device connected to the Internet.
The most popular incarnation of YouTube is currently as a mobile app for smartphones and to be honest its interface has grown in an interesting way in this area.
But for years there was a problem that users pointed out without seeing any improvement: the static of the video playback format.
YouTube now lets you zoom in on videos
Via a post on his official blog The people of Google have revealed the great novelties that are integrated in the most recent update of the app for mobile devices.
At a superficial glance it seems that there are no deep improvements in the interface, however a new and long-awaited function has been added, called as “Pinch-to-zoom” (click to zoom).
Where users can basically now play any video and use their two fingers to set the zoom area where the playback would stay fixed. This video explains it better:
After multiple requests from the community, YouTube finally introduced this option to zoom in or out of a video. Something that other platforms have been implementing for a long time.
But in this case things got better, since now in the app the movement is made to apply the zoom and when you remove your fingers the video is kept in the proportion and focus point fixed.
This means that you can enjoy a zoomed video without the hassle of keeping your fingers on the screen throughout playback. Something that is still necessary in the other interfaces of the competition.
Similarly, the app has integrated an improvement in the player interface, integrating more precise thumbnails when scrolling through the playback timeline.
This will make it easier to find specific points in the video and resume playback from there.
