We live in the era where the offer of content on streaming platforms is so broad that we simply no longer know what we want to see. That is how Netflix ended up creating a button to play some random series or movie and it seems that Youtube is about to implement that same function.
Just like in the old glory days of cable TV, the range and variety of options to watch in our homes is simply too much. Even the time it takes us to decide something to just pass the time or have background noise consumes too many minutes.
It is likely that you, dear reader, on more than one occasion have been surprised with your snack or dinner already completely cold due to the time it took you to choose which series or movie you would watch to accompany your meals.
Fortunately? The main streaming sites have an algorithm that, for better or worse, has already outlined our tastes and interests, so that we can relegate that task of choice to the software.
Netflix knew this perfectly and that is why it implemented this shuffle button a long time ago, and now it seems that another giant is joining it, following those same steps.
Perhaps many are not aware of it, but YouTube has a section, called Shortswhere the platform compiles short videos, just a few seconds, in the purest style of TikTok.
Well now, according to colleagues from Android Policethe platform has begun testing a new Shorts playback button in the mobile app for Google’s mobile operating system, placing the function right at the bottom right of the screen.
As we can see in the screenshot, the button has a black square shape and is now located just above the application’s navigation interface.
Although the first reports on the existence of this type of random functions date back a long time thanks to the report of some users of redditit is until just a week ago that it appears that the release testing of this button has been implemented in a proper manner.
The button is in almost the same location as the dedicated Shorts banner that YouTube has been testing for several months. However, the play button is more accessible and could make it easier for users to find Shorts content that interests them without the effort of searching for it.
YouTube has not officially confirmed the existence of the play button, but the evidence is abundant and everything indicates that the random playback would be based on the viewing history, the channels to which one is subscribed and the “likes” of the user.
