If you are tired of the classic Christmas decorations like the scenes, the red socks, the figures of Old Easter, among others, there is a geeky alternative that gamers will love: Doom, executed by your Christmas tree.
This amazing Christmas ornament is the work of Jeroen Domburg, who created this piece of retro art for desktop computers with a functional screen that ultimately runs the classic video game.
Explains a report published on the website of gizmodo that this tiny desktop PC, made with a 3D printeris inspired by the beige IBM workstations of the eighties, although interestingly Doom was released at the end of 1993.
As gamers remember, the Doom franchise is a series of first-person shooter video games developed by id Software, including novels, comics, board games, and film adaptations.
Doom Ornament Specifications
Instead of a classic Intel processor, the trim works with an ESP32from the family of low-cost, low-power consumption SoC chips, with integrated dual-mode Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technology.
Doom has already been run on this chip, but Domburg opted for a version of the first-person shooter that had been ported to the Game Boy Advance handheld console because it made controller connectivity easier.
While the ornament can work autonomously by playing through Doom’s demo mode, the little computer can also be connected to a Bluetooth controller. Currently, it only offers gameplay for one player.
Before we had seen video game-themed Christmas decorations. The report recalls the miniature Nintendo Switch with a screen that plays GIFs from titles like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
The models used by Domburg are available via GitHub for any fan who wants to create their own for this Christmas.
