The brand registered a value of 222.7 billion US dollars by 2022.
Costco has made a name for itself around the world as a wholesale retailer.
It is reported that Costco’s main competitor is Walmart.
Social networks have become the means most used by people when it comes to reporting the poor service of a brand. This is the case of a young man who denounced how a Costco franchise refused to take out his membership just because of his last name.
Brand membership and subscriber programs are not new, as they have existed over time as a tool to retain consumers.
In this sense, it was revealed that memberships work when a store or brand that offers products or services launches one to its customers, which, for a recurring payment, grants them certain benefits or preferential access.
Specialists maintain that one of the main advantages of a membership program is the loyalty they generate in customers, since the customer’s feeling is that of preferential treatment, because it has restricted access benefits.
According to Zendesk, this is known as customer loyalty, and it is one of the most cultivated objectives by organizations. And it is that, a five percent increase in customer retention can generate 25 percent more profits, according to a study by Bain & Company.
The history
It was through a video on TikTok that the story of the young man who indicated how the entire process was to process the membership of the American wholesale store franchise was released.
In his recording, the man said that he was denied membership solely because his last name is ‘Pastor’, because according to him there was no other problem for it to occur.
In his viral statement, the man said that he was “offered the highest-cost membership, but ended up asking for the basic one.”
Likewise, he adds that the process went by without any problem, they charged him for the membership and when it was about to finish, the young man who attended him called his supervisor, since the process was not carried out normally.
“Quickly, the girl tells him: ‘ah, his last name is Pastor’, what?, ‘he’s on the list of prohibited names, he’s not allowed to enter any Costco in the world’ and I stayed… ‘¿¿ what?’” he adds.
According to the subject, the company worker took out his phone and showed him a “list of prohibited names”, in which his last name, Pastor, is found, and according to the man this is because it is related to the church or religious issues.
“It’s because, apparently, the store associates it with the church or something,” he said.

In the same video, he indicates that he asked them to omit the last name Pastor in order to process his membership, but his request to put “Misael de León” was not possible either.
“I’m not processing the visa, it’s a Costco card,” he adds.
The recording went viral and recorded more than 11,000 interactions on the TikTok video social network and various comments from Internet users, who indicate that the young man was lying in his video.
“My mom has that last name and has a Costco membership,” read one comment.
“So those who are called churches cannot get membership? So Enrique Iglesias does not have a Costco card”, says another comment.
