Is your computer hardware working well and without problems? In that case, it is not recommended that you install the optional Driver Updates in Windows 10. We explain the reason for this.
Since early 2020 There are two types of driver updates in Windows 10: automatic and optional. Device manufacturers are responsible for indicating whether an update has to be automatic or optional, and it is only recommended to install the options in specific cases.
As explained in HowToGeek, the updates that Windows Update automatically installs work fine in most cases, and With few exceptions, it is not necessary to install anything else.
For example, gamers do need to regularly update graphics card drivers to improve gaming performance. It is also a good idea to look for drivers in the optional updates of Windows 10 in case any device stops working well, for example you experience sound problems or the printer does not respond.
But, if you don’t have a good reason, it is not recommended to install the optional Windows 10 driver updates.. In fact, this is the advice that Microsoft gives us in the Windows Update interface: “If you have a specific problem, one of these drivers can help. Otherwise, the automatic updates will keep your drivers up to date.”.
As we said a little above, If you are experiencing a problem with a particular device, then you can check for an optional update for the specific device driver. To do this, follow the steps below:
- Go to Windows Update Through the Windows 10 search engine or by navigating the Settings menu> Update and security> Windows Update.
- Click the Check for updates button to have the system check for updates on the spot, and then click the link See optional updates which will appear below the button in blue.
- In this window, go to the section Driver updates and the arrow displays the list. Here you will see the optional updates with the name of the manufacturer, the type of device, the date and the version number.
- Check the box of the optional update that interests you and then click on the Download and install button.
