Chinese Yifei Ye is one of the ‘fashion’ pilots. The young Asian rider has managed to conquer in 2021 the Asian Le Mans Series (ASLM) with the G-Drive Racing team and also the European Le Mans Series (ELMS) with the Team WRT, a team with which he he was also on the verge of winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the LMP2 category. In fact, the # 41 Oreca shared by Yifei, Robert Kubica and Louis Delétraz stopped on the last lap of the race while leading the silver category, handing the victory to the other LMP2 prototype of Team WRT at the WEC queen round.
Yifei’s performances have not gone unnoticed and the Chinese pilot has already completed a test with Cool Racing to make the leap to the WEC LMP2 class in 2022. However, Yifei Ye is also set to join the Porsche Motorsport factory driver roster. After being the first driver to win both ACO continental series in the same season, Ye will be one of the novelties of Porsche for the next campaign. A strategic move that will allow Yifei to have a manufacturer behind, while the Stuttgart firm ensures a talent for the future.
The signing of Yifei Ye has a clear reading of the future, among other things because Porsche will be one of the manufacturers competing in the LMDh class of the WEC and IMSA from 2023. In fact, Porsche Motorsport is expected to undergo a series of changes and a profound renewal of its factory driver roster to face the preparation of this program and development of the LMDh prototype itself, which will have a Multimatic chassis -like the rest of the VAG Group prototypes- and which will be operated by Team Penske, both on one side and the other of the Atlantic.
