With the changes made to the energy rates in recent months and the price of electricity skyrocketing and with maximum values every two times three, it is interesting that we can further optimize our electricity consumption within the cheapest time slots (or less expensive, depending on how you look at it). To do this, there are several alternatives to find out the price per kilowatt hour every day and modify our habits accordingly if we want to save on the bill.
Electricity consumption is the second main concept in your electricity bill that is presented to you each time by your energy company or mobile operator. Shows the price of each kilowatt hour consumed and is billed in €/kWh. It varies depending on the consumption you make and, with the new electricity rates, also on the moment you consume.
Different time slots in your rate
The new electricity tariffs introduced last year established three daylight hours for supplies of less than 15kW, mostly in homes. With time discrimination, the price of the kW depends on what time of day you are.
Remember that now there are three energy time slots:
- Peak Section: from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. when electricity is more expensive.
- Flat section: from 8:00-10:00, from 14:00-18:00 and from 22:00-00:00.
- Valley Section: from 00:00-8:00, weekends and national holidays. In these hours electricity is cheaper.
Logic dictates that, in order to save, we should use the elements that consume the most in the Valley section, followed by the Llano section and trying to avoid the Punta section. However, sometimes the most expensive price in Valle may not be far from the cheapest in Llano, making us want to look even more closely at the price of electricity for each hour of the day.
In addition to knowing these fringes, it is convenient know the price of energy per hour within each one, since it is not uniform from one day to the next and will allow us to further adjust our consumption habits by analyzing at what time you consume more electricity and at what time it is lower. If you find a connection between both elements, it could translate into savings on your bill.
How to know the price of electricity per hour
Searches on the price per kilowatt per hour are a great way to further break down each time slot and choose the cheapest hour from those available. You can check the price of electricity from the website of Spanish Electricity Network (REE). The electricity operator publishes the results of the wholesale market auction every day. Knowing in advance the price per kw every hour can help you plan your tasks for the day.
You can also download the REE app, RedOSin which the user can consult at any time and from anywhere the demand curve in real time, both for Spain and for the different electrical systems that comprise it, as well as the price curve.
Other alternatives, although they also collect data from the REE, may be the Web TariffLightHour.is, whose interface allows us to see at a glance the average price of the day, the cheapest and the most expensive hour and in which you can even subscribe with your email address to receive the prices of the next day at 9:00 p.m. In addition, it also has an Android app (not in the Apple App Store) with these same key data and without ads.
