The longest period of vacation for the children has arrived: it is time to take a break, leave the backpack behind and dedicate yourself to other activities to start the new school period with much encouragement. But… do you wonder if your child should start doing homework on vacation?
PUT (OR NOT PUT) YOUR CHILD TO STUDY ON VACATION?
There are parents who are very concerned about whether children should have activities that do not make them lose track of their studies and can easily join their new grade. Others think this is a time to relax and let the kids fully enjoy the holidays. But what is the right thing?
The specialist Nuria García Alonso, a child and youth psychologist, recommends that it should not be about one thing or another, but rather about knowing how to maintain a routine in which children can have duties and at the same time relax and have fun.
Children can continue learning during the holidays, as long as they are offered various alternatives, focused on their learning and leisure. It is not about sitting them down and taking up their lessons, but about getting to know other forms of study and empowering them.
RECOMMENDATIONS NOT TO LOSE THE THREAD DURING THE SUMMER:
- Schedules and routines: Holidays don’t mean getting up at the same time as before, but they also shouldn’t stay in bed until they want to! Set a vacation time to get up and go to bed. If they woke up at 7, for example, wake them up at 8 or 9 now, and prevent them from going to bed too late.
- Summer Courses: This is an excellent option for children to explore various recreational activities, with which they will learn a lot. A summer course will also help them to continue having a scheduled routine.
- Museums: one of the best alternatives for them to walk, learn and discover. Surely your city has several museums, many of them, free, for your children to live thousands of experiences.
- Household chores: vacations and housework are not disputed. It is important that they help with small tasks at home during this period.
- Presenting a vacation project: talk with your children about what they would like to do for this vacation at home: it could be remodeling their room, or creating a small garden.
- Daily reading: it is very important that your children do not suspend this valuable habit, which will help them resume their studies. We recommend that you read at least half an hour daily.
- Exercise: a great way to keep fit and have more energy for the next school year. It can be walking the pet, going to play in the park or enrolling in a discipline.
Remember that having activities at home is important so that children do not become sedentary, and they spend valuable time in front of the television or on mobile devices. Holidays are to get the most out of them.
