DC is at a critical moment in defining the trajectory of its future. In interview with Variety Before the actors’ strike, Xolo talked about his experience playing DC’s first Latino superhero. And, among other things, he talked about his perspective on the possible box office success or failure that Blue Beetle can experience. He acknowledged that, for the Warner Bros. studio, there must be a lot of pressure for monetary results, but he sees things differently.

“I’m sure that for Warner Bros., there is pressure,” said Maridueña. “Of course I want that [Blue Beetle] be one of the greatest movies ever. And I really feel like it’s a movie for audiences around the world. I think it should be a blockbuster, but at the same time, there are blockbusters that are not the best [películas] and vice versa. I don’t want to be a prisoner of numbers.”
In addition to the uncertainty for the future of the DCU, Blue Beetle deals with the aforementioned actors’ strike. As a consequence, none of the film’s stars were allowed to do any kind of promotion leading up to the premiere. Will that have changed the chances of success of the film?
Of course, a big box office almost always guarantees the arrival of sequels in these types of films. But whatever the future holds for Blue Beetle, Maridueña feels very happy with all the experience she has had.
“Regardless of whether we get 20 movies or it’s just this one, I feel truly fulfilled. If we manage to do another one, I am very prepared”, added the 22-year-old actor.
