Today, August 31, at 2pm. The Xiaomi Film Festival starts, an event where the brand has invited filmmakers from all over the world “to capture what the new normal means to them.”
Presented two years ago in 2019, the Xiaomi Studios is a project born with a clear vocation: to serve as a platform and producer so that different international creators can share stories and make the most of the capabilities of Xiaomi terminals. Since then we have seen all kinds of creations, and even award-winning shorts at the Malaga Film Festival in 2021.
A Xiaomi Film Festival global
The main short is ‘Leader’, by Chris Overton, an award-winning international short filmmaker and actor since 2000 in series such as Casualty or Drifters. This project about survival recounts the days of someone stranded on an island and builds sculptures out of leftover technology. You can watch the trailer from here.
Regarding the short, Chris points out:
I think the new normal in this movie represents a positive change. The pandemic has created many uncomfortable scenarios around the world, but we have also learned many valuable lessons. We have all witnessed how some parts of the planet have literally healed themselves and that is because the earth has had a chance to breathe. The new normal and the main message of this movie is not to forget the lessons we have learned.
And the last to arrive on the grid of shorts presented is “One billion views”, starring tech influencer Arun Maini AKA MrWhoseTheBoss, a close story to show his evolution as a creator, from very humble beginnings to the current epitome, where the technological advances of the latest Xiaomi give you the possibility to record, produce, edit and publish more easily than ever.
From the official Xiaomi channel you can already see up to three teasers with the rest of the shorts that we will see, among which is included the latest project by Óscar Villarrolla, student of the TAI University School of Arts, who is presented to the festival in the Student Film category with ‘Twenty Summers’.
