One of the most requested technologies for the graphics card market is the inclusion of image rescaling. Nvidia has shown muscle with DLSS 3, while AMD does the same with FSR 2.0 and now it’s the turn of Intel XeSS.
We already knew that the company had this system in its portfolio, but it has launched it in a surprising way, almost without warning. Thanks to Videocardz, we have been able to learn that Shadow of the Tomb Raider is the first and so far only game that has been updated to implement the compatibility.
Of course, XeSS is compatible with the Arc line of graphics cards, including the recently introduced A770. However, it does not forget other GPUs such as the AMD Radeon or the Nvidia GeForce, offering support for them. As for the classic performance comparisons, the account CapFrameX has already done the job with the Crystal Dynamics title using a Radeon RX 6800XT:
half promise kept
As with FSR 2.0, Intel’s promise was to release the source code for that tool. Although it is already available on GitHub so that it can be implemented in other works, the truth is that XeSS has not yet shown all its cards. We will have to wait until Intel decides to release all the content to the public.
