The Xbox Series X arrives before the end of the year and could offer a strong argument to seduce the players: a version without a disc player at 200 dollars. An extremely aggressive price would be revealed during the month of July, according to a leaker.
The console war is brewing. Each manufacturer gradually advances its pawns. Sony struck a blow on June 11 by unveiling its games and the design of its console. Microsoft could respond with an even more dramatic announcement.
Indeed, a leaker understands that the Redmond company would also prepare a version of its console without a disc player at a very low price. Eastman, known for having just hit the forums on Beyond3D, today claims on TechTacstic that Microsoft is preparing such a version (codenamed Lockhart) and that it would be sold for around 200 dollars.
For its “normal” Series X, Microsoft would target a maximum price of 399 dollars. Very low prices that would appeal to the public, while rumors suggest a price higher than 600 dollars for the PS5. To earn money, the American company would not count on its consoles, but on its games as well as its subscriptions to GamePass, a service already very popular.
This price would be announced at a virtual conference in July, during which Microsoft would like to strike a blow.
The force of the war
Today, the Xbox One (especially the One S) is significantly cheaper than the PS4 and is often sold by merchant sites. However, this has not always been the case. We remember that in 2013, during the presentation of the consoles, Microsoft had announced a price of 499 euros for its machine, which had done the business of the Sony PS4, sold it at 399 euros.
A communications battle largely won by Sony at the time, something Microsoft would not like to see happen again. Even if we have here a rumor that must be taken with great caution, a very aggressive positioning of Microsoft would be credible. Response in July.
