Xavi Vierge will not replace Franco Morbidelli in the MotoGP Aragon GP. Despite the SRT team’s offer for the Spaniard to make his MotoGP debut at MotorLand at the controls of the Italian’s Yamaha M1, Vierge has chosen not to make this one-off jump to the premier class and will remain in Moto2. The problems Cal Crutchlow and Jake Dixon have had on the back of Morbidelli’s M1 in the Grands Prix in which they have replaced the Italian they have been key in making this decision and reject the team’s proposal.
Franco Morbidelli’s long-term injury has forced the SRT team to bobbin lace to replace the Italian, more if it fits within a scenario of absolute instability within Yamaha. In fact, Cal Crutchlow got on the ‘Morbido’ bike in the double Grand Prix held at the Red Bull Ring, while Jake Dixon did the same at Silverstone. In the line of offering the home event to its Moto2 riders as happened with Dixon, The SRT team has offered Xavi Vierge to compete with ‘Franky’s’ Yamaha M1 at MotorLand Aragón.
Nevertheless, Vierge has chosen not to debut in MotoGP due to an option with such a short expiration date. Xavi understands that competing in the premier class in this situation will do more harm than good to his career, especially since there is no option for Vierge to move up to MotoGP with the team in 2022. Given this position, totally respectable, SRT has turned his gaze back to Jake Dixon, now a better-placed rider to re-occupy the place of Franco Morbidelli in the Aragón GP at the Alcañiz track.
