Worldcoin, a project to identify humans and distinguish them from artificial intelligence (AI), has launched a crypto wallet with no gas fees for verified humans, according to a May 8 announcement.
The new wallet, called “World App”, works on Android and iOS operating systems. It currently runs on the Polygon (MATIC) network, allowing users to save and transfer US Dollar Coin (USDC), Dai (DAI), Ether (ETH), Worldcoin (WDC) and Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC).
World App uses the project’s “World ID” system to differentiate between humans and bots. Users who want to take advantage of gas-free transfers must first register for a World ID by providing a phone number or an iris scan. The developers claim that the project does not store user data. Instead, it generates a zero-knowledge proof to verify that the user is human, but without revealing the data used to generate the proof.
Even users without a World ID can use the app, but cannot take advantage of the free transactions. According to the announcement, the app relies on account abstraction to allow free third-party payment.
The project has partnered with regulated cryptocurrency exchanges such as Moonpay and Ramp to offer the ability to deposit and withdraw coins from the wallet. Once the coins are in the wallet, they can be exchanged through the Uniswap integration. Users can also connect their phone numbers to the app to send and receive crypto through their phone contacts.
In a conversation with Cointelegraph, Tiago Sada, a member of the Worldcoin Core team, stated that the wallet was created to provide an easy option for inexperienced cryptocurrency users.
“When we started, we went with the normal wallets, the wallets that a power user like me would use on a daily basis, and it turned out that they were too overwhelming for normal people. There were too many options, too many things to do, it was not very clear,” he explains. . “We are launching World App as a product so that there is this alternative wallet that is focused only on simplicity.”
Worldcoin was co-founded by Sam Altman, also a co-founder of OpenAI, developer of ChatGPT.
