According to the International Labor Organization (ILO), the number of young people worldwide who cannot find work this year will reach 73 millionsix million more than before the appearance of Covid-19 in 2020.
In the same context, in Mexico, by the end of 2021, 2.1 million people lost their jobs as part of the fallout from the pandemicaccording to information from the National Survey of Occupation and Employment (ENOE) carried out by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).
Woman does not get a job and exhibits discrimination for having tattoos
Of course, this situation is not exclusive to young people, since, in general, the population is experiencing significant changes as a result of the health emergency, where unemployment seems to be slowing down.
This is the case of a 45-year-old woman, a mother of two children who, because she has an extensive collection of tattoos on her body, reveals that she has been discriminated against and her job opportunities are, in fact, nil.
“I can’t get a job. They do not like me. I applied for a job cleaning bathrooms where I live and they don’t want me for my tattoos.” revealed Melissa Sloan in an interview with Daily Star.
Now, according to the woman’s story, these tattoos were made in order to cover old scars, because, at the age of six, she was a victim of abuse and later decided to tell her story.
In Mexico, according to the National Council to Prevent Discrimination (CONAPRED), young people represent a third of the population with 112 million inhabitants, in addition to the fact that freedom of expression is one of the most basic rights of, human being, which is why the fact of having tattoos is, for youth and for anyone who decides to get them, part of their identity.
In this context, having tattoos is not and should not be an impediment to getting a job, and even companies that carry out this type of practice incur in cases of discrimination and go against what the law establishes.
In accordance with the provisions of the Federal Labor LawDiscrimination based on any physical, social, race or even religion condition is prohibited. the same happens with the physical aspect, making reference to the tattoos or the piercings.
