In Mexico the working day is eight hours.
In many parts of the world business hours can change.
Labor stories have become a recurring topic in the digital conversation and many times they make visible some bad practices of companies in the world. The case of a woman who died in a call center in Madrid is drawing attention, all because despite her tragic event, her co-workers were forced to continue their workday.
Among the rules of a worker is compliance with their working hours, since complying with these established schedules is a way of building a good reputation.
In Mexico, according to the Federal Labor Law in article 61 “the maximum duration of the shift will be: eight hours during the day, seven hours at night, seven hours and a half mixed. The special working day will be established through an agreement between the workers and the employers and will always apply if more than 8 hours of work are customarily worked”.
But many times, this schedule can be interrupted by the illness or event of the employee that incapacitates him to fulfill his duties where the company can be more flexible.
The history
The case of a 57-year-old worker who died while carrying out her workday in a call center in Madrid has sparked any type of comment, since despite the event, her co-workers were forced to continue their work.
According to what was reported in local media, it is known that this woman worked in the Spanish chain of call centers Konecta, and identified herself as Inma.
According to the Spanish media, the woman worked in a room dedicated to electrical fault calls and the reason for her death is unknown.
The case drew attention, since the employees denounced that they spent up to three hours working normally at the time of the woman’s death, until the experts and funeral services arrived.
VERY SERIOUS. According to what different unions have published in the telemarketing company KONECTA BTO, a worker died this Tuesday at her workplace, and the company forced the staff to continue answering calls with the deceased colleague next to her. ⬇️⬇️⬇️ pic.twitter.com/JVJBWJXV4M

Likewise, among the versions reported by the media, it stands out that after the forensic services arrived, doctors covered the woman’s body, but did not remove it, which is why they continued working at the place, despite the fact that many were in a state of shock. As there are also versions of employees who indicated that they were allowed to leave the place.
As well, the employees declared that they had spoken with supervisors and bosses to clarify the protocol in these cases, but their response was that they should not do anything and they had to continue at work.
After the great impact of the event, the multinational call center company decided to send an internal communication to its workers, where they explain the event that occurred and how they acted at all times.
The internal statement signed by the CEO of the company, Enrique García Gullón, reflected that all the center’s personnel were immediately offered the possibility of doing home office, including the workers of the rest of the shifts.
This story puts in the eyes of thousands of people the little flexibility that many companies have regarding the hours that their employees keep at work.
