One of the characteristics of a good leader is knowing how to communicate effectively, knowing how to convey their messages, knowing how to connect with their audiences, having empathy to persuade their team or the public they are addressing.
When we say that without communication there can be no leadership, we mean that one of the main qualities of a leader is that he must be able to communicate and influence people, if communication does not exist, there will be no followers, then there will be no leadership.
If we analyze great leaders, whether business or political, they have all had a common denominator, each knowing how to communicate in their own style and also having charisma. A charismatic leader is a person who knows how to convince, who has magnetism, who knows how to lead with a smile, and who makes work easy and everyone follows him.
There are many examples, but 3 of them come to mind that I personally admire as great communicators.
Mahatma Ghandi who moved an entire nation through promoting peace and reconciliation before political and religious differences of that time within India, in order to promote the independence of that country from Great Britain. Winston Churchill, British Prime Minister during the 2nd. World war that left its mark on one of the most difficult times of that nation before the tyranny of the Nazi regime, and that the British people followed with all the conviction to defend their country. Steve Jobs, creator of the Apple brand, a visionary who revolutionized the way we communicate with new technological devices that were very user-friendly with very attractive designs. His launches and presentations took a turn in the way of communicating and presenting the new products of the moment.
In addition to good communication, for a leader to be consistent with his narrative, he must also have education and respect for others, leadership is not imposed, it is earned with the trust and recognition of the team, with absolute respect for the work of the team, who always tries to motivate, and who is positive, even in difficult or complex situations.
There are people more predisposed to become leaders naturally, and others who will need to acquire some skills. Those bosses or “leaders” who imposed their law were only respected by their subordinates for fear of being scolded in public or even fired, fortunately this has now changed. Many companies pay special attention to this type of behavior.
A boss who clearly outlines the objectives and work plans in a timely manner, in addition to accompanying the team during the management of the project or projects, is a highly appreciated leader since the team feels the peace of mind that they have the support of their superior .
Humility is another characteristic of a good leader. Every boss should know that no matter how boss he is, he depends on the work of his team, so you have to be tolerant of the mistakes of others. This does not mean that errors are overlooked, but that they should be pointed out in private and alternatives given so as not to fall into them again, this will give the collaborator a lot of confidence.
A good leader must always learn, because learning has no limit and is essential to grow, both personally and professionally.
A good leader must also have charisma and empathy with others, he must be a polite and pleasant person, who never yells or disrespects his team. Empathy is a very necessary quality, because you have to understand the team, as a whole and the particularities of its members, in order to know how to get the most out of the talents of each member.
A leader must recognize the good work of his team, without exaggeration, in the right place and at the right time, this creates an environment of enthusiasm and positivity to achieve more challenging challenges.
It is very clear that communication is found in each of the aforementioned concepts, a good leader is synonymous with a good communicator.
