Microsoft could start to make it difficult to use the ARM version of Windows 11 on Macs with an M1 chip.
The relationship between Microsoft and Apple is somewhat complex. Although their rivalry has always been known, there have also been moments of harmony. Occasions in which both companies manage to work together to add value to users. Nevertheless, this is not one of those occasionsUnfortunately for Bootcamp users who have decided to jump to Apple Silicon.
The transition to Apple chips in Macs has been really good, with great results in performance and energy efficiency. However, it also has its buts. For those who used Windows on their Macs, has been a real problem. For one thing, the x86 version of Windows doesn’t work on Mac ARMs. On the other, the ARM version of Windows is not up to the level of x86.
To all this, another inconvenience has recently been added, but this time from Microsoft. The Redmond company has confirmed to the portal The Register that they will not officially support Macs with Apple Silicon with Windows 11 ARM. Neither installed directly on the computer, nor through a virtual machine.
Technically, this shouldn’t completely eliminate the ability to see the final version of Windows 11 ARM on M1-chip Macs. In fact, some virtualization software developers, as Parallels, they already confirmed that they would offer support for this soon. Thus, everything would be left to the interpretation of each company of the Microsoft software use agreements.
As always, we are confident that the developers will somehow make it work. But, for now, Microsoft’s refusal it could be a delay for those who were hoping to use the new operating system on their Macs upon launch.
