With Windows 10 Microsoft tried to offer a different browser. The Redmond giant left behind the old Internet Explorer and bet on Microsoft Edge. This one had a new engine and endless possibilities that never convinced users. This led to the jump to Microsoft Edge based on Chromium and, although you think that the old Edge does not exist you are wrong. This puts us in the position that Windows 10 incorporates no less than three browsers: Internet Explorer, Edge (EdgeHTML and Chromium).
Windows 10 seeks to remove Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge
People are experts at finding differences in the smallest details. That has happened with the guys from Aggiornamenti Lumia. In a Windows 10 21H2 preview language pack, Microsoft appears to have removed support for Microsoft Edge (EdgeHTML). This move appears to be part of the company’s plans to remove Microsoft Edge Legacy when the Fall 2021 update is released later this year.
We should note that the Edge Legacy is still included in the preview builds. However, this leak indicates that Microsoft is trying to unify the web browsing experience on Windows. At some point, users will not be able to access the old Microsoft Edge.
As we mentioned earlier, Windows 10 now comes with the latest version of Microsoft Edge. Where user data from previous versions of the browser is transferred during the first installation experience.
The Windows team has already confirmed that the original Edge browser will be discontinued in March. Encouraging users to try the new Chromium-based version focused on security and performance.
However, the old EdgeHTML engine is built into Windows and will take longer to completely disappear. This should be the leap that Microsoft makes going forward.
We will finally say goodbye to Internet Explorer in August
Microsoft is also planning to deprecate the Internet Explorer browser by removing more features. According to the roadmap, Microsoft 365 services and online applications will no longer be compatible with Internet Explorer 11.
In other words, if we try to access the indicated services with Internet Explorer, we will be redirected to the new browser. We will still be able to manage our Microsoft account with Internet Explorer, but many features will not be available.
