It is true that this May 2020 update for Windows 10 brought its share of unpleasant surprises. Some users cannot access data from their hard drive or partitions, while others still struggle to connect their printers. Despite these setbacks that Microsoft is currently erasing, the 20H1 update has integrated many new features: interface improvements, Ray-Tracing support, the possibility of renaming each virtual desktop, or even a manager tasks reviewed and corrected.
Obviously, Microsoft was still under the elbow since in this Thursday, June 18, the manufacturer announces that several Internet browsers will be able to benefit from better management of the RAM. In fact, the Redmond company is only reusing Segment Heap, a function that has allowed Edge to reduce the use of RAM by around 27%.
Heap segment for Win32 applications
Formerly reserved for Windows Store applications, Microsoft has decided to extend the availability of Segment Heap to Win32 applications. In fact, third-party developers like Google will be able to manage the use of RAM in their respective programs. A Google engineer has also indicated that Segment Heap will be integrated soon into Google Chrome.
The Mountain View company must correct some process errors before proceeding with the operation. Before getting carried away, Microsoft wanted to remind on its blog that ” the performances on the individual devices vary according to the configuration and the use”. Either way, Segment Heap should ensure a smoother experience for Edge and Google Chrome users.
