The Wii U is said to have been a financial failure for Nintendo, selling a fraction of the consoles that the original Wii sold and having been completely overtaken by the popular Nintendo Switch. Since so few people bought a Wii U, Nintendo has worked to bring that console’s games to its successor.
For this reason, almost all the great Wii U exclusives already have a version for switchand it looks like more Wii U ports are coming to Switch this year, from the beloved franchise of The Legend of Zelda.
In his podcast, well-known insider Jeff Grubb has said that Nintendo will finally release the rumored versions for switch from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD Y The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD sometime this year, in fact they would arrive this very October. Grubb noted that Nintendo has released a Zelda game for the Switch every year since the console’s inception, to reaffirm that ports are on the way.
It is true that Nintendo has released a game Zelda for switch every year since the launch of the console. Well, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild came out in 2017, while the spin-off ‘Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition’ came out in 2018. Link’s Awakening remake came out in 2019, while ‘Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity’ was released in 2020, lastly, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD was released in 2021.
Given that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 release date has been moved to spring 2023, it would make sense that Nintendo will launch Wind Waker HD Y Twilight Princess HD to keep fans engaged in the series.
It is possible that Nintendo release the games in a double pack, but could also release them separately. If Nintendo decided to go that route, it would be interesting to see if it releases one of the games for now and saves the other for 2024 or something.
Zelda fans are sure to appreciate the chance to play the Switch versions of Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD, especially if you’ve never owned a Wii U. These versions of the game offer improvements in gameplay and graphics. In addition, it remains to be seen what other improvements Nintendo could implement, in case the new ports for Nintendo Switch are real.
