As the traditional holiday season approaches, the United States government advised international travelers this Friday request your tourist permits (Form I-94) electronically, as well as other measures to expedite your trip to the country.
In a statement, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) invited travelers to obtain the document using the CBP OneTM mobile application.
“The holidays are one of the busiest times of the year and preparation is key to a successful travel plan,” said Jennifer De La O, director of field operations for CBP’s San Diego Office.
“Applying for the electronic I-94 tourist permit online using the CBP One mobile app benefits the travelersimplifying the process and making the most of your vacation experience”, he added.
He specified that CBP OneTM is a mobile application that provides a more convenient way for travelers to apply for an I-94 up to seven days before arrival, review their previous travel history, check their permit expiration date and obtain proof of their Electronic I-94 from your mobile device.
Permit applicants must be able to establish financial solvency and proof of residency outside the United Statesand demonstrate that they have sufficiently strong ties to their home country, including a home they do not intend to leave.
CBP mentioned several additional steps that can help reduce wait periods and streamline procedures, including having border-crossing travelers choose off-peak hours for their transit, Monday through Friday from 4 a.m. to 5 p.m. A.M. to 9 a.m. and Saturdays to Sundays from 2 pm. at midnight..
“All travelers who are not US citizens or lawful permanent residents of the United States should be prepared to verbally attest to their vaccination status upon entry,” the agency warned.
Travelers moving to other countries and are not US citizens or legal residents of the US they must have the documents required by the country to which they are traveling and identification for their re-entry into the United States.
“Be careful when buying anything from street vendors,” CBP warned. “Merchandise may be counterfeit and/or unsafe and you may have to surrender it after inspection at the port of entry.”
