Scalebound was an ambitious Platinum Games and Xbox game directed by Hideki Kamiya that promised to masterfully mix the hack and slash gameplay team sign with large scale dragon fights, and even cooperative multiplayer. Needless to say, it was finally canceled after disagreements between the parties, although now Kamiya seems willing to work with Xbox again. At least that is what she assured through her official Twitter account.
Kamiya is known for having a bit of a complicated personality, especially on social media, where he may have half Twitter blocked, but just a few days ago he surprised himself with a tweet personally addressed to Phil Spencer. Xbox CEO sent a floral gift to Platinum Games on the occasion of the inauguration of its new offices. “Thank you Phil! Let’s work together again ;)” replied the Japanese creative.

Coming from Kamiya, it is impossible to know if he is serious or if it is part of that peculiar humor of the Japanese, but now that Phil Spencer’s Xbox is expanding its first party productions with collaborations with so many other studios, we would not be the ones to despise a new Platinum Games game. It’s hard for us to see Scalebound rise from its ashes like a phoenix rather than a dragon, although the brand is still there and is owned by Microsoft.
Those who were excited about seeing Scalebound and its battles between dragons, it seems that Platinum Games took advantage of part of what was learned in the new Bayonetta 3, as could be seen in the game’s first gameplay trailer during that large-scale dragon battle. We’ll see if Kamiya and Spencer finally manage to put the past behind them and work together again soon. For now, Bayonetta 3 is scheduled to go on sale this 2022 exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
