For more than 9 months, Ukraine (the so-called pantry of the world for the wealth of its fertile lands) and Russia have been at war, transforming not only the lives of 44 million Ukrainians, but also showing us the economic implications that this war has brought both for Europe and for the rest of the world, mainly in the energy and agro-industrial sector.. Faced with this cruel panorama, we painfully have to consider what favors us and at the same time benefits us; By way of example and ironically, life places us in very similar moments. It’s like the end of World War II, right?how many countries profited from the reconstruction of Europe, in the midst of such a holocaust and tragedy?
Last September, Mexico presented to the UN a plan to stop the war, where it was pointed out that all the countries of the world must offer a diplomatic channel for the resolution of this conflict. His proposal is to establish a Committee for dialogue and peace. However, in March the Mexican Chamber of Deputies inaugurated the Mexico-Russia friendship group, a gesture that was applauded by the Russian ambassador in Mexico. These events call into question the real position of our country. Apparently, this lack of coherence reflects positions that mainly seek not to jeopardize the economic repercussions that Russia’s investment in Mexico could have, but, as the saying goes, , must “Look at the forest as a whole and not just at the tree.”
Despite the political position of our country, It is clear that this war puts Mexico in a better position (we insist, painfully), that the rest of the countries of the continent, especially due to the free trade agreement between Mexico and the European Union (TLCUEM) and, on the other hand, the one we have with the United States and Canada, as well as the thousands of kilometers of border that we share with our neighbor to the north. In addition, there is the agricultural production capacity of several states of the republic, the commercial opening and the reduction of tariffs, which has allowed and now allows much more foreign investment, generated by the good image that exists at a global level to install productive businesses. . Likewise, the large amount of labor that we have is an advantage, and this is a great moment for a great accumulation of capital and technology, which will allow us to be competitive in the future.
Regarding the increase in the production of national grains, these are going to have a larger market in Europe, since previously they were imported from Ukraine. The growth of this sector will generate the expansion of the branches of the agro-industrial sector, consolidate services such as accounting and logistics (transportation), in addition to the steel and metal-mechanic sectors and branches such as chemistry. Promoting the investment of both state and private capital is of paramount urgency, not taking advantage of this situation would be a total waste of opportunities. Will the war of social division that exists today in the country allow us to take advantage? #OpinionCoparmex
