For all you Marvel fans and comic book readers out there, you probably remember that when it was first introduced to Cap the God Butcher within the pages of Thor: God of Thunderhe carried with him All-Black, the necrosword he used to kill gods throughout the cosmos, which of course, at the time it was introduced, looked like a great sword, but it was later revealed that All-Black was originally the weapon of nothing except for Knull, the deity who created the symbiotes.
For what made All-Black the first symbiote, so after years of continuity, Marvel fans know that Gorr has a major connection to Venom, but the question remains as to how Marvel Studios will address this in the future. Thor: Love and Thunderand if possible they have revealed how they will handle it.
On the subject, during a recent interview with Jimmy Kimmel Live, Tessa Thompsonone of the protagonists of Love and Thunder, released a clip from the upcoming film with a hint and although it is largely a more fun scene between her character Valkyrie, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Natalie Portman’s Thor and Korg from Taika Waititithe scene features some key dialogue about Gorr’s version of Christian Bale.
Well speaking about the antagonist, Hemsworth’s god of thunder says that he moves “Through the Shadow Realm… The atmosphere there has a darkness like no other, it’s as if the color is afraid to tread…”
So it seems like we’ve already gotten a glimpse of this Shadow Realm in the trailers for the movie, but it also seems to indicate how Marvel Studios is handling Gorr’s connection to Knull, they’ve rejected it in favor of the “Realm of Shadows”a world originally created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko in the pages of Tales of Suspense, the Shadow Realm is a fixture of Marvel Comics Lore, and was later linked to Knull and other entities in The King in Black story arc.
So since Gorr and his sword, and the Shadow Realm, are tied into the non-Spider-Man comics, Marvel Studios seems to have no problem using them, so the complexity of Sony’s ownership of all the film rights to the webslinger and his minions (including Venom and Knull) probably means they can’t really reference anything about All-Star’s comic book history. Black, so it’s possible Gorr’s weapon will get a new name and origin for movie theaters.
