Wiesmann returns to the fray and shows the first advances of “Project Thunderball”. The German firm has embarked on one of the most exciting projects in recent years, with a fully electric sports roadster, which will mark the rebirth of the small manufacturer.
At the end of last year, and with a lot of time in between without showing signs of life, those of Wiesmann announced a great novelty for this year 2022 showing a new very sporty model under a fabric that revealed very muscular forms, typical of the retro air that the German firm imprints on its models. But, then, he did not anticipate a single detail by inviting us to a registry to keep us informed.
So far, they have released a couple of images of what they call «Project Thunderball». The small manufacturer, which until now had been using BMW’s powerful engines for its most radical creations, has left combustion behind and seriously committed to the opposite, electrification at the highest level skipping the intermediate technologies of HEVs and PHEVs. One of the new models for this year, produced on a smaller scale and with a price within the reach of very few.
The Wiesmann Project Thunderball will demonstrate the sportiness of zero emissions
A real surprise for this pair of advances because, on the one hand, it shows that Wiesmann does not renounce his more sporty roots, with a two-seater roadster featuring a long bonnet, a set back cockpit and a short rear. The qualities of a purebred sports car, despite the fact that the front volume is no longer so necessary as it does not house a large combustion engine.
But there are also other more than special details, such as a powerful brake kit and leafy vertical gills on the front wings, seen from the rear view. In this area, the absence of escapes, symbols of a great power, is striking, but it is occupied by a large aerodynamic diffuser and a striking spoiler between the four taillights provisional. A design that is kept secret as its definitive first name. Because “Thunderball” is the internal code chosen to publicly refer to this future model.
The truth is the internal name suggests that electrical energy may be the “fuel” of this future model or, at least, an important injection with more than barbaric benefits. Roheen Berry, one of Wiesmann’s owners, said: “As the automotive industry undergoes its biggest revolution in a century, there could be no better time to herald the return of an automotive icon refreshed, reborn and recharged. This is Wiesmann’s fit for the 21st century, and this is just the beginning.” That, by the way, we are looking forward to seeing and, according to the Germans, it will be in a few months.
