Now that Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes is out now, this new game for Switchwhich is a musou-style spin-off and follows an altered version of the Fire Emblem: Three Houses plot, where those characters face off against hundreds of enemies in combat and action, but brings other changes to the story of Fire Emblem: Three Houses, as the developers of the Omega Force spin-off decided to turn its protagonist, Byleth, into an antagonist.
On this, the director of Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, Hayato Iwatarecently explained the reason for this change: “We had the Three Houses writer write this title as well”Iwata said in an interview with IGN. “So when I spoke with this writer, I discussed the following point: ‘Although Byleth represents the player, at the same time he is also one of the attractive characters. So making Byleth an antagonist is a necessary development to further highlight the the character’s charm.
Also, as part of the same interview, the producer of Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, Yosuke Hayashiexplained what to do Byleth an antagonist and an NPC makes for some interesting conflicts: “We thought that the main theme of Three Houses was ‘the conflicts that arise from the clash of beliefs of the characters’, but among the characters, the only one who did not have such a conflict was Byleth. This is quite natural since Byleth is the main character and is a character for which the selected path is always rendered as the correct form.”
“In Three Hopes, we decided to portray Byleth as the antagonist because we wanted to explore this theme further,” Hayashi continued. “In doing so, we thought we could make players experience ‘the conflicts that arise from the clash of beliefs of the characters’ in both Three Houses and Three Hopes.”
